Tea & Tunes

I’ve always been sort of obsessed with tea, and learning more about it in any way possible. I also like to combine my interests whenever possible, and of course there are those random conversations with friends that bring up questions that prompt you to go hunting on the internet. Recently I was talking with some friends about  favourite things. Tea parties came up, which led to us discussing one of the best songs ever* Flight of the Conchords Hiphopopotamus Vs. Rhymenoceros.

This in turn got me thinking about other songs that feature tea in the lyrics. So I type my request into the search engine and BAM! Lyrics came back with “3,754 lyrics, 18 artists, and 88 albums matching tea.” Of course I’m not going to post them ALL, so this is just a short list of some of the ones I’ve enjoyed over the years, but I’ll certainly be listening to more from this list; you never know when a random internet search will lead you to your next favourite artist (or blog post)! So without further ado, here are some songs that mention tea!!

T.U.S.A – Masters of Reality

Tea and Sympathy – Jars of Clay

When I Take My Sugar To Tea – Frank Sinatra

Have A Cuppa Tea – The Kinks (one of many Kinks songs featuring tea. See also: Afternoon Tea)

Be Our Guest – Beauty and the Beast

More Tea Vicar – Iron Maiden

Lovely Rita – The Beatles (as a point of interest there are about a dozen Beatles songs that reference tea)

Digsy’s Dinner – Oasis

Smithers-Jones – The Jam

Funny How Love Is – Queen

Tea for Two – Doris Day

And I couldn’t finish this post without including the song that started this all! Here’s what you’ve been waiting for:

Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros – Flight of the Conchords

*in my opinion anyway

  1. Greetings:

I just wanted to compliment you on your presentation to the Cumberland Women’s Institute yesterday.

The teas you presented were wonderful and your explanations were informational.

    Thank you.
